Browser Colour Management in 2014

16th May 2014
For years now, I have thought that all browsers, on the Mac at least, had full colour management support. Recently, when adding some of the more saturated Iceland images, I noticed that they don't look like what I see on a colour managed iMac and monitor. I have done a lot of hunting in the last day or so and have made the following discoveries:

Safari has full colour management support.
Firefox has it but it's safer to implement it via an add-on. If not, you have to change advanced parameters.
Chrome is a lottery. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it breaks

As for the Windows world, my understanding is that Safari works and Chrome and Firefox don't. I may well be wrong as it's a while since I gave Windows much thought.

Bottom line is: To see what I see on my computer, use Safari.

I'm somewhat gobsmacked by this. I haven't given colour management much thought for a few years, happily assuming that all was well. How far from the truth, I was.
